Government to Announce Level 3 Restrictions

Posted on 26th March 2020

News from ADA Federal Branch

We have just received information from the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC), comprised of all state and territory Chief Health Officers and chaired by the Australian Chief Medical Officer.

Below is an excerpt from the advice provided by the AHPPC which will be published shortly and provided to the National Cabinet:

Dental Services

“AHPPC recommends adopting the ‘Managing COVID-19 Guidelines’ published by the ADA and implementing a triage system for dental practice. AHPPC recommends that all dental practices implement level 3 restrictions as outlined in ADA’s guidance. That is, dentists should only perform dental treatments that do not generate aerosols, or where treatment generating aerosols is limited. All routine examinations and treatments should be deferred.”

Government has set an expectation that measures introduced across the board may become more restrictive and continue for an extended period.

If you haven’t already, please take the time to read through the materials available at which we will continue to update.

The ADA’s HR Advisory service can assist you with employee and employer advice and there is information available on mental health if you or someone in your practice wants to talk.

We understand what this change means and is likely to have a significant impact on you, your family, and your patients. We’ll do everything we can to provide you with all the support we can during this difficult time.
