Imagine your life in Broome, a tropical sun and sand paradise. Free to live a quiet, private life pursuing your hobbies and interests or, a busy one getting involved in one of the many interesting and artistically minded groups, plunging into sports, camping in spectacular scenery, fishing in crystal clear waters, crabbing in a muddy creek, or 4 Wheel Driving where it does not rain for 6 months of the year … well for a couple of days perhaps. The dry season (May to September) brings in an influx of tourists from across the globe which adds to the multi-cultural aspect of Broome where social events such as weekly night markets with delicious food trucks and parades come to the town. If you consider yourself a “social bee” this could be the perfect environment for you.

About the Practice
Pearly Whites Dental Practice is operated by locals for the local community and is committed to kind and compassionate dental care. Our experienced team bring diverse expertise ensuring we offer comprehensive services comparable to those found in city dental practices. Our team listens to patient needs, addressing concerns and fears to provide a reassuring and caring atmosphere. We prioritise respect, professionalism, confidentiality, and place value on a pleasant experience for all clients.

The Practice operates 3 well equipped surgeries with 2 Dentists and 1 Oral Health Therapist. There are no specialists in Broome however we are fortunate to have a skilled Specialist Dentist in the practice for a week every 12 weeks to take care of the more complex treatment requirements (complex extractions, oral rehabilitation and implants. Life changes mean that a Dentist position has become available.
The practice offers all general dentistry, complex dentistry through the visiting specialist, and we currently refer complex orthodontic cases to a regularly visiting orthodontist. Referrals to these specialists outside of the local appointments are possible however travel to Perth would be required for this.

Practice hours are Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm with first appointments at 8.30am, an hour for lunch, and flexible finish times depending on what drives you. The practice does not currently book appointments on a Saturday however depending on what drives you and what fits, this option could be explored.

About the Role
This is a full-time position OR could be a Locum position on a rotational basis with the Principal Dentist. The Locum aspect of this opportunity is negotiable though the suggested formula would look something like 3 months on with 1 month off.
Responsibilities include diagnosing and treating dental issues, performing routine checkups, providing preventative dental care plans and performing emergency dental treatment for patients in pain.

General tasks are restorations, extractions, endodontic treatment, removable prosthodontics (support provided if needed), extractions and periodontal treatment along with educating patients on good oral health.
Endodontic treatment, especially for pain management is a requirement however difficult endodontic treatment can be referred to the Principal or the visiting Dentist Specialist Dr Kieran Chew where necessary.

There is a guide for fee structure the practice charges. Remuneration is 40% commission on fees charged with relocation support options of up to $5000 being discussed with the successful applicant.

Accommodation will be covered as well as the use of a car for the first months trial and then $300 / week is offered for the following 2 months.

Periodontal health and education of patients in an encouraging, non-judgmental environment is an important part of the role and we are fortunate to have our own local Oral Health therapist to refer the practical aspects of those treatments to. Aesthetic dentistry (bleaching, minor orthodontics with composite camouflage, and composite veneers) are enjoyed by the Principal Dentist and associates but is not pushed onto patients.

The role also carries responsibility for maintaining excellent patient records, adhering to safety protocols, and ensuring high standards of care and professionalism. We are fortunate to have Dr Kieran Chew, a highly skilled visiting Dentist to refer to for implants, complex prosthodontics, complex surgical extractions, and sedation Dentistry for dental phobic patients. He is not only skilled and talented in these areas, his support and encouragement is backed up by a wealth of knowledge in many areas of Dentistry.

About You

  • You will have the legal right to work in Australia.
    Please note that this practice can offer sponsorship and is open to applications from qualified Dentists that have passed the Australian Dental Council Examinations.
  • You will have at least 3 years clinical experience as a Dentist however over 5 years’ experience would be preferred.
  • You are willing to secure AHPRA Registration, belong to the Australian Dental Association, and will follow the ADA recommended insurance guidelines
  • You are proficient and comfortable in performing all general procedures.
  • You are passionate about exceptional patient care with the natural ability to treat people with kindness, empathy, and respect.
  • You have excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • You are confident in formulating and discussing treatment plans with your patients.
  • You enjoy working as part of a friendly and collaborative team.

About the Principal
Dr Angela McIntosh (BDS Otago 1991) loves aesthetic restoration with a particular focus on managing the often time related low self-esteem that comes with dental anxiety and associated phobias. From this Pearly Whites Dental has a special interest in all aspects of general dentistry and works holistically towards empowering people to take charge of their own dental health and address the issues that are unique to them. Angela was born and educated in New Zealand and moved to Australia early in her career working in and owning a Dental Practice in Brighton Beach Melbourne as well as opening Pearly Whites Dental in Broome 11 years ago. Angelas partner lives in Auckland with his two teenage children which means time is split between Broome and Auckland. In her own time, Angela has a keen interest in the many aspects of Art and Culture, and embraces spiritual and physical well-being.
