The world of human resources and employment relations can be difficult to navigate given Australia’s complex industrial relations framework, which is constantly changing. In addition, many practices may not have the scope for dedicated HR staff or consultants. The ADA HR Advisory Service is a service available to all member dentists (practising or retired) and dentistry students, and their authorised representatives. The HR Advisory Service gives you access to immediate employment and industrial relations advice, provided through the telephone advisory service.
What do we advise on?
The HR Advisory Service provides transactional HR advice over the phone on a wide array of matters including:
This advice is all provided verbally over the phone and does not generally extend to written advice, although we may email you additional information and resources.
The ADA HR Advisory Service is not able to assist with patient issues or advise on industry practice or regulations. Taxation, detailed superannuation and financial advice are also out of scope for the HR Advisory Service.
Although written advice is not provided through the HR service, ADA members also have access to a number of templates on the HR Hub, including performance improvement plans, policies and leave application forms.
Members also have access to a number of fact sheets and contract templates, including employment contracts, independent contractor agreements and SFA templates. The HR Advisory Service is able to support members in understanding specific terms and provisions of contracts. It is recommended that members email a copy of the contract with any specific questions about clauses or terms within a contract to the HR Advisor Service, and a consultant can then call them back to discuss their queries.
The HR Advisory Service cannot, however, advise members as to whether an offer within a contract (such as remuneration) is reasonable and if you should accept it. A full contract review is also not available through the HR Advisory Service but can be performed on a fee for service basis.
Some examples of questions the HR Advisory Service can answer include:
Can you explain how the restraints in clause 15.1 work?
What am I entitled to in an SFA agreement?
Some examples of questions the HR Advisory Service cannot answer are:
Are you able to review this contract and let me know if anything is missing?
Is this contract reasonable?
The ADA HR Advisory service also regularly assists the ADA in presenting HR focused webinars and produces monthly articles on relevant and timely HR topics.
The ADA HR Telephone Advisory Service is available between 8:30am and 6pm AEST Monday to Friday on 1300 232 462 or via email at hrhotline@ada.org.au
The ADA HR Advisory Service can only provide advice to ADA members and those who they have authorised to call on their behalf. Members can complete an authorised contacts form, which the HR Advisory Service can provide upon request to enable someone to call on their behalf.
If you have any questions about the ADA HR Advisory Service or have any HR matters you would like to discuss please call the ADA HR Advisory Service on 1300 232 462.
